A friend read this book and always talked me into reading it but I didn't want to but then she told me of the movie and I thought I must give it a shot.
Here's the very amazing trailer for this movie.
Spoilers ahead!
So the movie opens with this incredibly handsome guy doing exercise which I find so sexy! But I was quickly disapointed by him. He's a d**k!!!!! "Such a waste of a beautiful face", I thought. Alex Pettyfer is a very handsome actor but I started relating him to Gaston...
My friend told me this was like Beauty and The Beast modern version. It quickly explained everything and motivated me to keep watching it.
So as it is expected there's the "Beauty" played by Vanessa Hudgens and I think she's called Linda in the movie. Quite intelligent of them to change her name but maintain the meaning. Linda in Spanish means beautiful or in this case Beauty. She's the kind of girl that doesn't get played by looks and judges a person by their personality. I was a little skeptical when I saw her of all people playing that part, but she did well.
OH! I just must talk about my favorite character here: Kendra Hilferty, the witch. I loved her!!! Mary-Kate Olsen did an splendid work as the witch and it sad that people only thought about the principal characters. Really, hair styles and clothes were just AMAZING! It reminded me of a dark Wonderland theme, nothing but the best style for a modern witch.
I loved how Will Fratelli and Zola represented Lumiere & Mrs. Pott...at least that was what it looked like for me. Will had that dorkiness that we all loved from Lumiere and Zola was sweet and mother-like just like Mrs. Pott and also she had her kids, which was also another reason for me to visualize her as Mrs. Pott.
"Embrace the suck!" WTF? How did they came up with that!? xDD That's way too funny! Oh, and was I the only one that noticed that when Kyle was a beast "embrace suck" was written on his eyebrows? Talking about the tattoos, oh my! How did they do all that!? I can't even imagine all the time they spent applying all that to him every time they had to shoot. I was quickly reminded by the humuoungus amount of make up and extra stuff that consists the costume of Rumplestleskin from ABC's Once Upon a Time.
When Linda and "Hunter", as he presents himself to hide his identity as Kyle, finally get to really know each other the movie turns sweet and I personally loved the scene when their watching something in Korean on the TV. Also there was the greenhouse thing. It was extremely sweet of him to build a greenhouse for her. There were other sweet scenes of them but the best of them all was when he almost got to kiss her until that damned cellphone rang. *sigh* Cellphone calls, cockblocking since unmemorable times.
Linda said somewhere in the movie, "What happened to romance? Sappy, soppy longhand love letters." Kyle remembers this and writes a veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery long love letter for her throughout the movie. He hands it to her after the damned cellphone call...But she had called him a great friend .______________________. "WHY!!!???" I couldn't help but scream that at screen.
My friend, which was re-watching it with me, after that part kept telling me, "They won't end together." Leave it to her to make me uneasy about a movie. I didn't want to believe her but she had watched it for like three or four times, I thought she was telling the truth.
And the suspense for me continued even until the end. I THOUGHT SHE WAS GONE! BYEBYE! ADIOS!...*sigh* Thanks goodness, that it wasn't how it ended. Happy endings RULE! And oh yeah, I wanted to kill my friend after all that suspense.
Really, my heart warmed as Will had his sight back and Zola found his kids. Beautiful scene. A great action from Kyle. Another beautiful scene was when Linda came back looking for "Hunter" and found Kyle and he told her he was "Hunter". Beautiful~~
The whole crew did an amazing work. Anyone who is a sucker for the Disney Princesses, Disney and fairytales (like me ._.) will really like this. I also find Beastly very easy to like and really couldn't find a little thing to hate about it.
I'll leave you with a loved quote of mine from when Linda was leaving for Machu Pichu.
"I just was scared that you didn't love me. And I didn't think you could because of how ugly I am. I should've known better. That's not who you are. You took one look at me and still said you'd seen worse. And somehow, when I'm around you, I don't feel ugly at all."
Now don't tell me that's true love! Beauty and The Beast forever will be in my heart as the best fairytale in every version.
